Federal Plastics Registry
Is Your Company Prepared?
Participating in the CFCP Environmental/Regulatory Affairs Peer Group means you’re on top of reporting requirements for the Canadian Government’s new Federal Plastics Registry (FPR) as well as updates to the various Provincial EPR Programs (Blue Box & others) in operation across Canada as well as similar programs now coming on board in the U.S.
he Group meets every 8 weeks, or as necessary, via Zoom to review and discuss product and packaging recycling EPR programs, Federal Plastics initiatives such as the FPR, as mentioned, but also PFAS reporting, new packaging & single-use plastics recycled content requirements and potential new recyclability labelling rules. Other federal and provincial legislation or regulations are also covered such as Federal Anti-Greenwashing guidelines, Quebec’s Bill 96 French Language updates or electrical/electronic product standards. We recommend member companies have at least one person participate in this group to learn and share information on the number of regulatory fronts and keep your company in the know.
In regards to the Federal Plastics Registry (FPR), the second year obligations for Phase 1 continues with online reporting due September 29, 2026. However, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) announced in March that Phase 2 and Phase 3 FPR reporting has been delayed. Publication of a new Notice and Guidance for Phase 2 & 3 is expected later this summer and CFCP will keep you advised once the new details are made available. Participating in our group calls will give you insights on what your company will be required to report on in the near future and beyond.
The next CFCP Environmental/Regulatory Affairs Peer Group meeting is scheduled for July 23rd from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. ET. If you are not already a member of the group and would like to participate in this meeting or a future meeting, please email Michael Jorgenson at mjorgenson@centerforconsumerproducts.com for further information and/or to get a Zoom Meeting link.
