Market Information and Trade Data
The Center for Consumer Products provides its members with marketplace data and industry intelligence to help them in their business.
The Center for Consumer Products Trade Data Reports are based on Statistics Canada, Canadian Border Services and Industry Canada data and provides import quantities/costs by product categories.
Other Specialty Reports are distributed from time to time, such as a Labour and Wage Report, which examines several important developments in the Canadian labour market, and Financial Analysis reports comparing retail, wholesale and manufacturing industries.
The Center for Consumer Products also produces an Industry Salary-Compensation Report based on surveys conducted every two years.
Trade Data Reports
In today’s global marketplace, complexity continues to grow as e-commerce platforms like Amazon, eBay, and Alibaba transform how products move across borders. Yet one constant remains: every product enters a market through trade channels — and that’s where our analysis begins.
The Center for Consumer Products Trade Data Reports draw from official trade and customs data, providing a clear picture of import quantities and values. Figures represent total volumes entering a market, with values typically expressed in local currency and converted at prevailing month-end exchange rates. FOB values indicate the worth of goods as they leave the port of origin.
While dollar values highlight market size, unit quantities often reveal the underlying story. Shifts in tariffs, currency fluctuations, or changes in brand mix can all affect pricing — but quantities provide a steadier view of true market demand.

Specialty Reports
In addition to trade data reports, other Reports are distributed from time to time, such as the annual Employment & Wages Report. Salaries are essential in attracting and retaining good employees. However, employment is also an important part in planning sales and marketing in the Office Products industry.
The Foreign Exchange – COVID19 report outlines the key driver of the Canadian dollar (CAD) and discusses when you should increase prices.
Another recent specialty report called Unintended Consequences deals with year-end financial statements. It provides comparative results for businesses in the retail, wholesale and manufacturing industries. The report points out similarities and variances between businesses and cautions companies entering new industries and sales channels without first considering the overall impact on their financial results. Whether you are a global player or work out of your garage, financial statements determine investments, financing and eventual sale of a business.
The Competing with Amazon – There Are No Secrets Report shows you how to acquire valuable pricing/costing data from Amazon to compete with this online juggernaut.
